Can anyone identify this insect? It is some sort of a fly. There were many Dragonflies and Horseflies in the area, it almost looks to me like a cross-breed of those two. The length of the body equals the length of a full grown Dragonfly. He rode with us for about a mile down the river. I almost collected a canoe-fare from him! :)

A map of the river (dark blue). We camped at round spring, a central location for canoe trips from different starting points. The Jack's Fork River (no relation to me) meets the current river at two rivers. The Jack's fork river is warmer with more snakes, and less springs to feed the river.

Most signs are prohibited here. Its a National Forest Preserve, and they try to preserve the beauty. Like the song says..."signs signs, everywhere the signs, blocking out the scenery, polluting my mind, do this don't do that can't you read the signs?"

They were all in rootwads or dead tree branches. we saw none swimming in the water, or none crawling on the ground. a funny part of the trip was when i steered the canoe towards a large rootwad of a fallen tree to see some large turtles, and my canoe-mate in front started screaming because he saw 3 large snakes bigger than this one in the rootwad that we here heading straight for! it was like he suddendly drank four red bulls all at once! oh, yes, being the master oarsman that i am, ahem, , i avoided the rootwad and the snakes by at least six inches! :D

Millions of turtles here in this river... one spot we counted 12 in a row on a large log. Saw another turtle underwater with his shell the size of a dinner plate!

Yes there are a few snapping turtles here. (The others had zippers) lol, Most turtles jumped into the water as we approached and they totally diappeared. Never really tried to pursue them.

Had to check some numbers just for fun. Average speed in water for a turtle is 10-12mph, with the fastest being 20mph. On land, the turtle is the slowest of the reptiles moving at 3-4 mph maximum.(that was much faster than i thought) I might have guessed 1 mph. A snail travels approximately .002 mph.

One of the four campsites we occupied, all close together. Just to the right is another one, and to the left another, and behind me is the Trailer. There is a huge spider web from the top of my truck to a tree above it, you can barely see it here, but its main part is on that biggest tree where many of the branches are...see next picture for close-up!

I believe there are a few correct paths we can choose for our life, which will make our life flow smoothly and beautifully like a gentle stream. There are just as many wrong turns we can make, where the stream becomes a raging river full of dangerous rocks and snakes and other challenging and difficult obstacles. There are forks in the dangerous river that lead back to the gentle stream. Like plants, some people have chosen to follow the light and thus have an inner guidance to help lead them along the correct path. Fantasy is like parking the canoe alongside the stream, and walking up the path to a most beautiful relaxing enjoyable place. Its refreshing, can be a place for nourishment for the soul, and warms a special place deep inside. To stay there would hinder the overall journey. To not go there would make the journey less enjoyable. A plants intelligence is their natural one...they grow in the light of the sun, and need proper watering of their roots (soul) to be beautiful. The same symbolism can be used for people and their understanding of this.

It was grooved to fit a stick, and was like a hammer on one side and pointed on another! There were native indians living in this area at one time. Maybe this was some sort of holy indian ground? i did sense something guiding me here. The sand castle i built looks like a teepee,with a circle moat for protection around it, and the tomahawk stone was cool also that i found. it does now look like a man with a flat top hat, either bowing to a king or praying to a god, doesn't it? and the greenery on both ends of him is peculiar also. i am going to upload the tomahawk stone and overhead view of this sand castle pic next to this pic! and i found the stick with the tomahawk stone in perfect position, it was over by the man, i moved it.

i can explain 95% of my dreams. i can even "order" dreams! they are fulfilled (quite often)but in a changed way mostly. yesterday (this night?) i had to get through a row of heavy transport (like bulldozers, etc). the vehicles were moving slowly on a road and i had to be very careful not to be run over (or smashed)trying to cross the road...

its a bird, NO,...its a plane! YES its a plane! The STEALTH Bomber paid us a visit on our trip...it was closer, but by the time i saw it and maneuvered around a fairly dangerous part of the river, and got my camera out of its waterproof case, it was at a little distance...still, heres the proof!

B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber, USA...21 B-2s have been delivered to Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri,... the river, and the campgrounds are not very far from this base! at night we watch some airforce maneuvers in the night sky. The planes look like stars because they are so far up, and we are out of the range of hearing them.

YES! they do get many reports from visitors who live far enough away who do not know about the air force base. Last year we were vacationing here and were about to enter a cave. A massive sonic boom erupted from nowhere! we had second thoughts about going in the cave, but did. The Boom was from one of the aircraft breaking the sound barrier!

some people have become so liking of that city way of life, that even when they "get away to nature," they bring their house with them and all the modern appliances and conveniences. They go inside their trailer and its as if they never left home. They missed the owls calling, and all the sounds of nature at night. One of the nights, the fog was so thick that it formed droplets on the leaves, and as they gathered and dropped, they made the sound of a light rain falling on the tent. My friends in the trailer missed that as well.

the one i slept in was like a flat with a hall plus two rooms: one for two and the bigger one for 4, i think. but the boys slept there being 6 in number. two of them slept in "my" compartment (one by one) but then one went home because of some light disease and they stayed sleeping together.

one time i accidently broke my friends nose! we were on the beach in Galveston. He had been drinking and he had a Black Belt in Karate! a champion fighter! He was just playing with me when he tried a surprise fake kick to my face (not intending to hit me, but just missing) (showing off). My reaction or reflex was to punch him in the nose, breaking it and knocking him down. It just happened, i didn't even think about it, it was just a reflex!

my uncle killed a guy at the disco many years ago when he was young - he just hit that guy (because of a girl i think), but didn't mean killing at all. he was sentenced 25 years in prison. i met him first when he was over forty, of course. he had no tattoo. he spoke without any bad language words. you could never think he'd spent in prison more than half of his life. he's still alive and tells funny stories (not about the prison years)! i never met any other person so strong-willed and hardy!

to answer your question, no i never killed anyone or spent anytime in prison. (they never caught me or found the body)...:D...my friend apologized to me for his surprise kick! And i felt bad about what happened. Needless to say he respected my reflex reaction much more after that! He said i should study the martial arts with my quickness and strength, i could go far. I have heard prison will make you stronger both physically and mentally. I dont want to find out.

LOL, yes, leave it to you to think of that! :)..i remember visiting a carnival with a "house of mirrors." inside there were mirrors that distorted your image to make you look taller or shorter, thinner, or fatter. Even one made you appear upside down. if you have a shiny metal spoon you can reproduce these effects! in the part that holds the food you appear upside down, and you can make yourelf taller or shorter depending on the vertical angle. In Australia, i think the opposite is true, since they are on the bottom of the world, right? :)...i do know that their toilets flush with the water spinning the opposite direction as here.

on this trip, the only time i ever felt dirty was putting up the tent and taking it down. it was warm, and i got a bit sweaty. I went down to the river and swam in the clean, clear, cool, water, and felt clean, totally refreshed. I could have gone to the showers, as they were closer, but the fredom, and natural beauty called me to the river. once a year we do this trip, and it is always one of the best events of the entire year!
