Taken during my (all expenses paid) trip to Landstuhl to work as an electrical contractor at the LRMC (google it). See my shadow in the foreground holding a camera? This young cutie had a slight smirk, she knew I was taking the picture. This was before the anii-photographer hysteria was in full bloom.

Another roll scanned - Amsterdam to Germany to Spain. This was in 1988, one of the few years I DIDN'T go to Italy. Since I have no notes from that roll of film, I believe this is on the train from Amsterdam to Strasbourg to Hamburg. I think I still have that belt. For some reason my dark hair has changed to white.
ducman4988 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 2021-12-12 02:58
Or was it Amsterdam to Hamburg to Strasbourg to Port Bou?

proudman21 πŸ‡³πŸ‡± 2021-12-12 14:50
You could make this trip again, many direct train connections between cities in Europe have returned. (although I suspect it has become 'slightly' more expensive than in '88...)

Thank you. I have many travel photos I've never scanned. I thought I would remember all the places I had been since I assumed I would do the labelling within one year after taking them. However, with many photos I've waited 30 or more years to do the scanning and labelling, like this one. I guessed right on this one because I knew I had to go through a major city in order to go Lubeck (Oops, LΓΌbeck), and Hamburg was the only one that would fit.

ducman4988 πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ 2022-03-18 02:57 in reply to proudman21
I stopped at Cannes several times - there's a photo of the motorcycle I rented in my "Motorcycle" album (I rented it from Cannes, not Nice). I just rode through Antibes - didn't stop. I was looking for David Hamilton in St. Tropez and Ramatuelle (dang, he wasn't waiting for me). I KNOW I have more photos of Cannes, I just have to find them. I had some very interesting times on the "CΓ΄te d’Azur". I remember coming back at night to Cannes, had to get gas at an automated station (couldn't figure it out), then I stayed at a small hotel before Cannes. I WISH I COULD FIND MORE OF THOSE PHOTOS. Also, don't forget the photos of the girls in the album "Enfants de la CΓ΄te d’Azur", which included Cannes and Saint-RaphaΓ«l (where I stayed at an Auberge de Jeunesse).

That reminds men on the movie "Avanti" with Jack Lemmon. He had to go to Italy cause his father had a car accident during his vacation there. He learned that his father was not alone in the car and that he had a relation with a woman from UK for 10 years. They eventually buried both in Italy, Ischia and you could also see the sea from the graveyard. A real nice movie

OMG, I never posted this before! Probably my best-known photo, published many times. Taken on the outskirts of Tarragona in 1970. I was hiking through Spain to Portugal, on liberty from the USN. I camped out in a field, when I woke up there was this boy in rags sitting next to me smoking. He told me he lived in the trash dump nearby. He also said he had a horse - so this is "Francisco, sin caballo". We went our separate ways. I'm no longer young, but I will NEVER forgot him. Maybe I HAVE lived a full life.

This also makes me think "When will I get back to scanning my photos of kids?" The answer is "I don't know". Right now trying to settle my deceased sister's estate (there's no-one else to do it!) is taking up ALL my time. I have a few minutes here and there to post photos that have already been scanned, like these, but not much time for anything else. After I settle my sister's estate, I'll also have to look for another place to live because of the delinquent mortgage on my sister's house. Maybe after all that, I'll have time to look for more of my photos of kids, scan them, and post them.

As i said before: just take your time...
