There is a difference in language on either side of the Atlantic; I can assure you that these shoes are described as “sandals” in the UK. More specifically they are “T-bar” sandals, this particular type are “double T-bars”. The Oxford English Dictionary defines the word “sandal” as “a light type of shoe secured by straps or thongs”. The term “Mary-Janes” comes from the US but refers to shoes with a single cross-wise strap or “bar”. These are not usually called sandals in the UK, probably because they are more formal shoes with a heavier sole; but watch this space – there may well be a gallery for them here soon.
