Hello there. Thanks for adopting a few of my pictures, Rinrin (even though I still don't know if that's the way you like to be called or if it means something else). This statue is part of the permanent collection from the MUNAL (México's National Museum of Art) at México City, in case anyone wonders. It really is a beautiful sight seen live and was quite a discovering the first time I saw it (I must have been 15, wasn't sure if it was allright to load a statue of a young boy with "homoerotic associations" but I sure enjoyed doing it).

It reads (roughly): “A satyr instructs Love on obtaining triumphs without the use of his arrows”: such is the meager explanation published in the catalog from the 20th exposition of the National School of Fine Arts, regarding this sculpture. It seems to allude to the obtaining of love through payment, a usual subject during the Century of the “per cent” (“so much you have, so much you’re worth”): opposing the exaltation of a romantic and unselfish love, is the idea of love as merchandise. Such is the explicit theme, but there’s another possible reading: inspired on a Hellenistic group, and in accordance with the classic tradition, which saw in satyrs and pans the figuration of unbridled sexuality that would not stop on gender limits, Noreсa’s piece is loaded with homoerotic associations. The statue is at the MUNAL (Mexico s National Museum of Art)
