Sitting naked boy, 1907 Einar Ilmoni is focused on picturing a naked boy figure that is introverted and looks almost morbid. The boy, on verge of puberty, seems to be awakening into awareness, sexuality and adulthood. The world of a child is however still present. The suggestive background portrays the painters own mysteriousness and contemplation of the existence of the human being. The model of “Sitting naked boy” is an orphan named Väinö Koskinen that Einar Ilmoni adopted together with his siblings. The boy was often posing for Ilmoni. Väinö Koskinen died young, in the 1918 civil war at Vehkajärvi. (from a written description in Finnish in the gallery)
