Originally labeled as a "county home" for tubercular patients, this sanatorium was re-named in a more pleasant fashion circa 1925 to improve the image of the state's sanatoria in the public eye. A large brick medical building and two smaller pavilions were constructed atop a scenic hill.
It ceased operations as a TB hospital in 1976, and the facility was transferred to the Department of Mental Health. The large hospital building was retrofitted for use as a psychiatric hospital, while the other outbuildings were re-purposed or demolished.
A single pavilion remains abandoned, once called "Hospital Two." It was used for recovering patients who still required isolation from the community.
