The forest near Mannheim is located on the Rhine plain between the Odenwald and the palatinate forest. The forest contains numerous abandoned U.S. military installations, including the Lampertheim Training Area and dozens of abandoned ammunition bunkers. It is also nicknamed 'panzerwald' which means 'tankforest' in german.
