Jules Pascin, was a Rumanian Jew who lived and worked in Paris in the 1920s and 30s. Later travelling to other parts of the world, including Cuba and the southern states of America. He was a life long libertine who included brothels and prostitutes as subjects. He produced many pornographic illustrations for various underground publications and it could be this that caused adverse criticism from certain hostile art critics. Jules took these attacks personally and some suggest that it was the most likely reason for his subsequent suicide. I am not so sure, Many ground breaking artists endured adverse criticism and did not take their own lives. Nobody really knows what goes on in an artists mind... not even the artist himself.
