HI Ray, I just sent you a email as I was having trouble with this website I went to school in the mid 70 I think the difference between Ireland & UK was that they were talking about outlawing corporal punishment in the early 70 and did it in the late 70s as for as I know the cane was forbidden by law sometime the 70S because of the damage it could do,getting your bare bottom spanked in fount of the other boys must of being embarrassing for you?

my school uniform was mainly green blazer,jumper,tie was green with black strips grey socks& shorts 1st to 4th compulsory 5&6 wore navy blue corduroy long or short pants the rest of the uniform was the same we were expected to wear the shorts so short back then and if your socks fell down you get your legs slapped

I didn't much if any any sport at school due to my health I'll email you about that I played a lot of chess debating and things like that to answer your question I don't think there wood of bring a communal bath as it was a Catholic school in Ireland in the 70th the church sow anything about the naked body as a mortal sin you have no idea what these people were like when it come to nudity.

I did hear about these gem slapping's before in English schools back then that type of punishment could brake the skin did they have parental consent to cane you naked and in front of others? they took some liberty's back them and these people called them self's teachers will email you tomorrow about my uniform.

I have a friend who went to school in the UK he found the experience very to talk about up two this day I not surprised they didn't seek parental consent before they you the school insurance policy would of covered the broken glass the school principal should of suspended that teacher even in the 70S that was child abuse I can fully understand why your father hit the roof it be different if he slapped your bare bottom.
