I lived in the same "palazzo" in Gaeta in the 70's when I got discharged from the US Navy. I first knew her as one of the little kids in the palazzo when she was 8 years old. This time, 1992, I was just visiting. Of course she's now "grown-up" and has her own family since then.

I was working as an engineer at Hope Creek Generating Station in Hancocks Bridge NJ. I believe Lawlyn, the 19 year old girl in the middle, was working in the office there. I asked her to do some modelling, so later we went to a nearby park (maybe Penns Grove?) and I took some photos of her and her two 14-year-old friends she happened to drag along. I used my Mamiya 645 camera. REMEMBER THIS IS 1986 WHEN PEOPLE DIDN'T GET HYSTERICAL ABOUT MODELLING PHOTOS.

We were engaged for awhile when I was working there as an engineer for Bechtel at the Al Taweelah Power Plant. She worked at the bar of the Al Ain Palace, did tricks on the side. When I left to back to the USA through Italy, I gave her a ticket to meet me in Roma. She never showed up. We called each other a few times, and it never went past that again. I regret that because it was my last chance to get married, 52 years old in 2000. Yes, I loved her.

With the extreme difficulty in taking photos of kids nowadays, I've turned more to photographing very young women. For me (at my age), I don't really think of a "22-year-old" as a WOMAN, they're really just slightly bigger versions of a "cute kid", so it's still quite soul-satisfying. However, there's even some danger of taking photos of very young women, with the current politically-motivated hysteria that's being engendered.
