I assume you are near or above the Arctic Circle and in Russia? We have been to St Petersburg, but were never permitted to venture outside of the city, except on organized tours.

you are right, now I'm located close to the Arctic Circle (a little bit north). And, yes, in Russia. I am geologist and often work in the north of Russia. And what about the permissions to "venture outside of the city", It is very strange for me, becouse as far as I aware, foreigners do not need any special permitions to travel across Russia, But such travel can be not dengerous, but extreme. At least at first time preferably to have a Russian-speaking escort. I guess, that the same kinds of views of nature, you can see in northen Canada and Aliaska.

Don't apologize for your English, I must apologize for not writing you in Russian. Being a geologist is a great profession. I spent 40 years in technical sales, designing both components & systems in the "fluid power" arena and loving every minute of it. If you have ever seen the movie "Jaws", my friends and I designed the pneumatic systems that ran the 17 sharks, since electrical systems did not work well in salt water.
