Thanks for the nice compliment. A Tunisian boy who I considered "my little brother" and helped him and his family so many years ago, has always remained grateful that I considered him my foster son.In the region where I live, we have a saying. He who spares the rod hates his children. Now I'm certainly not in favor of a serious "beating" for boys, but a serious slap on the fingers if well deserved, since no boy has ever died from that. We certainly didn't before. It's a shame that not everyone realizes that over-spoiling children has a much worse long-term effect. In the event of an appropriate slap on the fingers, every boy immediately knows where the boundaries are. respect for values and norms is a requirement.

Here, beating kids is an uncommon way to discipline them, but from time to time it is absolutely necessary...My husband is in charge of the chore and uses his belt! It could look cruel, but generaly one or two strokes are enough and the boy knows the limits for ever!

That always reminds me of the Tunisian way of raising children. Many boys have been introduced to father's belt and every boy quickly knows what is possible and what is not, just as we had to learn in the past. Discipline and discipline are simply part of an upbringing. It goes without saying that this should not lead to uncontrolled punishment by parents who do not take good standards and values very seriously. A corrective slap has never made a boy worse, on the contrary.
