The boy's skin tone doesn't seem to fit at all with the background which has comparatively greater contrast. Perhaps when you printed the photograph you did this intentionally?

I did do some adjustments in Adobe PS to bring down the contrast - it worked somewhat with him, not so much the background which was much higher contrast.
