Bib-and-brace overalls evolved from the "slops" that working folks wore in the 1700s. In the 1850s an enterprising American, we don't know who exactly, improved them using metal clasps and tough denim fabric, and overalls were born. They took the world by storm. Wherever they are worn and whatever they are called, from the "dungarees" of the Brits to the "obaoru" of the Japanese, overalls are a symbol of the can-do American spirit. And in my opinion they're the only garment a girl needs.
